Process

All the Day For Night process is documented in some form; often video, through journals and work-day diaries, and eventually compiled and edited into a work methodology that can either be digested (here); or thrown away…

Day 060 “I Am Never Bored” – An Artistic Monograph • Portfolio by Eric Scott / Day For Night… A presentation of strategic design, art direction and multimedia.

Sitework: “The Re:Fresh Gallery”

Day 060, the Re:Fresh Gallery, is a three-part virtual structure proposed for the viewing of graphic artworks by Day For Night, and set to the downtempo/trip-hop beats spun by DJ Salvador Dalek. Re:Fresh is a home to works and installations in the areas of fiction and non-fiction, audio, motion and interface design, and is accompanied by a catalogue documenting the graphic work of Eric Scott.

The current exhibition, “Fans Should Not Be Moved Or Turned Off” collects visual work from the graphic archives of Eric Scott, to be viewed in the upper design gallery. Other site spaces include the Listen Soundspace, workshops for audio design, poetry and intermedia, and a lending library for customized industrial samples and loops.

Living.org :: Living Faith Christian Church

Living Faith Christian Church, Northridge CA - Logo and identity by Eric Scott/Day For Night

Living Faith Christian Church, Northridge CA – Logo and identity by Eric Scott/Day For Night

Living Faith is a contemporary, non-denominational Christian church, offering a contemporary style of worship and practical Bible teaching to help you connect with God in a personal and powerful way. Day For Night provided the new “Living” brand and visual identity system, plus website design and support through new informational graphics.

Eric: “The branding and identity campaign for Living Faith Christian Church  (Northridge, CA) began initially as a logo refresh, until the prophetic evening before presenting design comps, when I had a dream that the logo should only be a single word. The logos presented were all two-words or more, and the single word living was already appropriated in their URL. It made perfect sense to capitalize on the descriptor in this case because “living” could also be applied to many aspects of the church and its characteristically bold approach.”

Below, the the short film “We Believe“, an application of the motion brand, produced and animated by Daniel Cathers / Living Faith Christian Church.
Voiceover: Julian Bailey. At bottom, some rough sketches from the logo development process.

Tomato Workshops NYC :: June 2001

Art Workshop Event
John Warwicker (Tomato) at the NYC Tomato workshops

John Warwicker (Tomato) at the NYC Tomato workshops

“Record the world in front of you
and in the edges of what you
cannot or will not see.” – Eric Scott

Excerpt from the brief for Tomato‘s workshops:

The workshops are a way of immersing yourself suddenly and intensely into the process and conversation that goes on within tomato. Several members of tomato are there to initiate the conversation, but the workshop really happens through the interaction of everyone there. A wide range of people from around the world with diverse backgrounds come together to create work. You not only learn a great deal from everyone around you but everyone learns from you as well. They are about creativity, art, process, life, philosophy, design, and the interconnectedness of all of these things. But of course I now have to ask if these things ever were separate from each other anyway? (more) (Courtesy of TomatoWorkshops.com)

Eric Scott (Day For Night) “June, 2001 in New York City was the setting of the Tomato Workshops where I met Peter Moraites, and formed an indelible bond and friendship. Much can be said about the 5 days spent at a workshop where I arrived with no concrete expectations, and left with a head full of dreams. John Warwicker, Graham Wood and Steve Baker (of Tomato) had created a studio setting that felt (for me) like a week-long break from routine, where the client work schedule got left behind in California, and I could instead inhabit this “commune-like” environment for creativity, where sleeping and eating came second to working and making things in a creatively charged space.”

Eric Scott “Polite” from Tomato Workshops NY, 2001 from Day For Night.

Produced for Day 1 of the Tomato Workshops NYC, June 2001.
An exercise created from my room at Hotel 17, Greenwich Village at 11:30 pm on a very rainy night in New York City. It was made using Flash and Macromedia SoundEdit; using a digital camera, handheld audio recorder and limited resources (certainly no access to internet, c’mon — it was June 2001 and I was alone in a dingy little hotel)… 🙂

Add Soundcloud file embed for installation art created in NYC during this period.
