WIRE PFGO – “Pink Flag” with the Pink Flag Guitar Orchestra at DRILL:LA April 2017

WIRE PFGO – Wire Pink Flag Guitar Orchestra
For Wire’s 40th anniversary, the Pink Flag Guitar Orchestra performs Pink Flag – April 1, 2017.
On the 1st of April 1977 the band performed their first gig as WIRE at The Roxy in London…
On the 1st of April 2017, WIRE performed their 40th anniversary show during Day 3 of DRILL Festival LA.
Noveller (Sarah Lipstate), who opened for WIRE during their 2017 East Coast tour dates, joined the LA stage on that night in the Pink Flag Guitar Orchestra, and was also one of DRILL:LA’s fine lineup of artists.
This video was edited by Eric Scott (Day For Night) from crowdsourced YouTube footage shot on Wire’s 40th Anniversary. Members from the audience recorded the performance from various angles with their phones, during the 2nd encore around midnight.
Many thanks to videographers Adrienne Scott, BRMC Down Here, Dean Westerfield, Mariex Xme, OccupyJordan, Ron Borolla, Tim Wilson and Von Kraemer DeWitt for their excellent coverage and dedication – holding an iPhone 6 over one’s head for 11 minutes verges on a yoga pose for the some.

“Crowdsourcing… is endemic!”

WIRE High (Music Promo by Eric Scott)

Wire “High” Music Video – from pf22 ‘Wire’ (1:58)

Music promo for WIRE High from their 14th album release “Wire”, out April 2015 on Pink Flag. Video created by Eric Scott (Day For Night).

“…It all began (rather unassumingly) as ‪#‎iPhone6‬ concert footage which I shot at the Echoplex L.A. show last May, having no plans in mind, and quickly turned into this. I found myself playing in After Effects and before I knew it, hours had passed and I was proceeding with confidence that there was an idea to explore, some visual contrasts to do with altitude and time.

“’High’ was immediately a standout track for me, from a tremendous 14th album (the self-titled ‘WIRE’). The song is buoyant with these soaring emotional highpoints in the poetic text, which is as beautifully cryptic as with so many of Graham Lewis’s lyrics. Meanwhile, the overall structure (A-B-A-B-C) contains some brilliant nuances, from the minor-to-major shifts which signals the chorus. Wire’s art-rock perspective on this results in something that is musically very satisfying, even in the less-likeliness of a ‘pop’ event… it is all-the-while SO subtle in so many more ways than one. A real gem of a song, it needed to become a single!”

Tall Grey Buildings ~ Malka Spigel ~ Video

Tall Grey Buildings :: Radio Edit Version (3:30)

This is the music promo created by Eric Scott for “Tall Grey Buildings” by Malka Spigel, which has an official release with the EP “Gliding” on the Swim~ label on May 19. Enjoy the trippy kaleidoscopic and time-lapse sequences shot around LA and London during 2013, and edited to Malka’s shoegaze/dream pop sound, and visually inspired by her richly colorful Lomo stills (http://bit.ly/1hLZr1X).

And, there is also a full length version too. This version matches the mix on the EP, preserving some additional Venice Beach and Santa Monica footage shot during the original videography.

Malka’s songwriting and recording career spans back to the early 1980s where, as bassist and vocalist in the Euro-Israeli post-punk band Minimal Compact, she eventually met her future husband and collaborator Colin Newman (Wire). The two of them are also members together in the bands Immersion and Githead, and presently continue to work and tour with their original bands.

“Tall Grey Buildings” is produced by Colin Newman (guitar) with musical contributions by Ronald Lippok (drums), Julie Campbell (guitar), Matthew Simms (guitar), Uri Frost (keyboards) and Gil Luz (keyboards).

Day For Night “Identity” (Day 008)

Book / Words & Images by Eric Scott

day008_tabletop_mini
Eric Scott is a writer, multimedia artist, designer and composer… and in his 2nd book “Identity,” (Day 008) he explores the gestalt of Day For Night, presenting a variety of visual identities (alternating between the personal, and those created for his clients) along with other “messaging” from the Day For Night history. To create this work, Eric has painstakingly reviewed, documented and organized his own personal work, writings, designs & creative observations to present a cross-section that is the salient tip of the Day For Night (creative) iceberg…

In keeping with this approach, an abstract, occasionally surrealist, and mostly art-focused approach dominates the works presented, where “Identity” deliberately avoids the conflict of narrative, and instead interweaves many of Eric’s personal writings, notebooks and archives. A corner peeked-around when developing the identities and writings in a highly personal and visual setting… all of which, at its heart, defines the Day For Night approach.

“Identity” is a must-read for anyone who is a friend of the label, a client (or potential client), a lover of railway travel and/or urban explorer, reader of poetry or theorist of information architecture, or someone who is passionate about the creative process.

The full visual identity system, logo and sub-brands created by Day For Night, under the catalogue ID “Identity” (Day 008). As a matter of internal reference, this also includes identity marks for Eric ScottNIGHTfonts, Editions La Nuit Amèricaine, Re:Fresh, King FMBluebottles, and Rhythm Factory, plus the accompanying letterhead, envelope, business card, in-ternal communications (fax, invoice, etc.), and a free downloadable desktop utility for composers, the Day For Night BPM Calculator.

NIGHTblog :: Music by Eric Scott (Day 082)

Digital Solution & WordPress CMS Site Design

2013_NIGHTblog-Music By Eric Scott

“The biggest conundrum for an artist can be how to present the oeuvre,” begins composer Eric Scott. “That was exactly the challenge I faced with over 2000 works, some of which don’t fall into standard album/single release formats, and many of which are regularly being updated as they go from thumbnail, to demo, to final, to revised final! It’s a mess…”

NIGHTblog became the digital solution for a life lived online; with the full music canon in blog form of Eric Scott’s output within the Day For Night catalogue, as well as productions, remixes and collaborations. The decision was made early to use SoundCloud as the robust player and cloud platform to store the music, with extensively detailed studio journals, anecdotes and commentary from the author.

Each track is also accompanied by mood and genre descriptors, musical key and tempo info to make the music licensor/supervisor’s job a little easier… search “funereal” and “uptempo” and see what you get?

We met the challenge of creating an imaginary world of underground train journeys and “tube” subway station platforms. These were wedded to the actor performances (who were filmed on blue-screen), in order to create a virtual journey from “ignorance to awareness” for the website, which is structured around original video PSAs.
