You study the notice board
as you wait for your number to be called...You react to the
slew of lo-fi HTML pleasantries and experiments – are
these waiting room pastimes? Most of the people around you are
seeking treatment of one kind or another, and so sitting tight
and waiting with less than a bored grin is an obligatory stage
in any admissions process. And H O SPITAL (Day
070) is no different – where interactive remedies
play a big part in the diagnosis of urban malaise.
The Waiting
Room is composed of Shockwave and QuickTime VR
projects, generated by Day
for Night Multimedia, and designed to provoke a
healthy response from the inquiring or concerned patient. It
is an experimental lab site for ongoing, interactive development
and usability research; a hidden
camera with a roving wiretap on local cellular
phone bands, and a terminal display which autogenerates phonetic,
sometimes erotic wordplay. An RX paypoint dispenses mental-health
prescriptions, and is available outside the front
lobby.
