Happy New Year from Day For Night!



First of all – thanks for letting me include you in this latest Day For Night newsletter, as we revisit the past year together, shamelessly self-promoting and trying to plug as many wonderful clients and friends as possible, while trying to thank everyone who helped make 2009 a success. I hope this finds you well in the New Year, and thank you again for your continued help, friendship and support.

2009 was a big year for us personally; Day For Night’s 11th year was also one of new beginnings, a baby boy named Austin David Scott, a move to a new, permanent location in Porter Ranch at the windy north end of the San Fernando Valley… all is very good at this time of reflection and rest, and we thank everyone for their ongoing support and patience during the slight delays throughout the year that had much to do with growth, and the beginnings of life. We expect 2010 to kick in without a hitch!

If you’d like to continue receiving the occasional update, please feel free to send a reply back, hopefully just to say 'hi' or to send any feedback this way, kind or otherwise. Web development and strategy, art direction, design, video editing and compositing, site programming and consultation.

TalkAboutIt.org was devised by Greg Grunberg (star of NBC's HEROES), and designed in collaboration with the Epilepsy Foundation and Brian Peterson of Roam Creative. Talk About It! unites celebrities and Hollywood stars to ask questions and to provide answers on epilepsy awareness, and invite change in the public's false understanding and perceptions about epilepsy.

We met the challenge of creating an imaginary world of underground train journeys and "tube" subway station platforms. These were wedded to the actor performances (who were filmed on blue-screen), in order to create a virtual journey from "ignorance to awareness" for the website, which is structured around original video PSAs.

This enigmatic teaser for TAI was officially retired on March 27, 2009, but the Dreifuss Station Preservation Society has enabled it to live on in perpetuity as the Pimlico arm of the TAI Railway Network. Once you've been to the site, don't forget to talk about it!

The CVA Gallery site is an e-commerce online gallery, and the sole official retail site for contemporary Lakey paintings, including his newest "Unencountered Language" collection.

Living Faith is a non-denominational Christian church based in Northridge, CA, offering a contemporary style of worship and practical Bible teaching to help you connect with God in a personal and powerful way.

Day For Night provided the new "Living" brand and visual identity system, plus website design and support through new informational graphics.

GRACIE'S CLOSET  >  

Gracie's Closet is a lighthearted gateway site and luxury doggie boutique in Oxnard, CA, and retails the finest quality clothing, goods and accessories for your pampered pooch. Starring none-other than Gracie herself, a 1-year old Great Dane with a flair for the elegant in all that is canine couture. Only expect the top designer labels – Juicy, Louis Vuitton – and you should be quite content.

Day For Night designed the look, feel and functionality for this lighthearted new e-Commerce brand and site, garnished with pages from Gracie's own personal Diary, ghost-written by her BFF and trainer, Stacey Ayub.

ANDREW LAKEY : SILHOUETTES & SHADOWS >   

Silhouettes & Shadows is an ongoing experimental project that examines the liminal boundaries of likeness using a minimum of subject information to generate the threshold of stimulus of sufficient intensity to produce a similarity. The process of capturing the mere tracing of a shadow cast by a profile, or the simple outline of a body part, such as a hand or a torso or a foot, as a methodology to eliminate extraneous detail, becomes a portal into a new dimension of artifact. The question is “How much can be removed before likeness is lost or new likeness is revealed?”

The Silhouettes & Shadows collection is a continuum of work that will be shown to the public in upcoming exhibitions and at select venues where the artist is making a public demonstration of the process.
