What kind of music will I be playing? And
what's Trip Hop, you ask?
...A combination of music that’s appropriate for this regular Thursday night downtempo club – basically Trip-Hop (Massive Attack, Portishead, DJ Shadow) – plus all the rest of the music I love most – brilliant “cinematica” with great moody, ambient atmospherics, chilled grooves, great hooks. UK stuff. Post-rock, downtempo, ambient, alternative/indie, jump-up drum’n’bass, crossover… Expect a surprise here or there!
As long as it gives my set an atmosphere and takes the listener somewhere over the two hours, then it’s perfect. I like my sets to feel like miniature movies… drama, exotic travel… suspense. Dreamlike, mellow sometimes, then suddenly surprisingly edgy and a little aggressive. I hope that anybody coming to one of my events arrives some good friends to chat with, and brings an open mind about wanting to hear new stuff and let the DJ influence their taste for things they haven’t heard before. |
