Description

Anthem One is marked in my notes as “my first song ever,” because I had come up with the end melody as far back as the spring of 1979, but I had the full arrangement as soon as I bought my first 4-track recorder in Late August 1984. I remember that when I played the first demo of it to a songwriter I knew at USC named Kirk, he burst out laughing and actually fell on the floor. It made me a little self-conscious for a moment, and I asked him “What’s making you laugh?” He said, “The bass just sounds like this “monster sound…Wwow, wwow, wwow, wwow…It’s supposed to be funny, right?”

Umm. Yes. It’s supposed to be funny. Nice one, Kirk…
