1986_0320 : Basket Case (Soundtrack)
For Matt’s third film, I got to play an Art Gallery Snob the day he filmed at the Rolling Gallery on Wilshire Blvd. It was the story of a Rogue Artist who steals a Street Person’s shopping cart, which is filled with trash, and places it in his art gallery to make money. I was the Snob who wrote him a check for it. I remember wanting Corinne to play my girlfriend in the film; at that time though, I was having enough trouble getting her to play my girlfriend in real life. Wade Major portrayed the Hobo; I remember we made him walk to the art gallery, which was five blocks from Matt’s house, all dressed up in his outfit. He told us that by the time he got there, he’d been stopped a couple of times. Chris Shaw came to the shoot and played another of the patrons in the gallery, drinking a martini. It was a load of fun to do, especially the shot of me dressed in a fancy grey suit, walking away up the street at the end of the film, happily pushing this shopping cart full of trash.
Matt let me write a motif to underscore the basket-pushing hobo in the opening section. It has always been the most fun working with Matt because he gets involved in all phases of film-making, and has great ideas for the music. We used Moonlight Serenade for the closing and left the film on a wonderfully sad note.
