1986_0622 : You Wouldn’t Believe
Dreams have always been important to me; I’ve always paid special attention to them. This was the first song I ever completed, about a girl whom I had a passionate interest in when I was fourteen, intermittently through the age twenty-two. There was a period when all I could do was wake up from another dream about having run into her after a lengthy attempt to track her down in the witness relocation program. What she was witness to, I will never know.
These dreams seemed to hold a key to me as to a solution; perhaps a holistic one; in which I might divine her feelings towards me. When all the lyrics came together that day in March ’81, I felt absolutely brilliant; that I had finally accomplished what I had set out to do the first day I had taken up guitar playing.
