1988_0901 : Starstruck
A put-down of sorts, aimed at the juvenile mentality in some people who imply that some people are truly above others because of their “star status”. Interestingly, it can also be misconstrued as an envious attempt on my part to fight for recognition without star status. A friend of mine from my work was completely obsessed with film celebrities, to the point where it clouded her mind about other matters. I found her interesting to talk to, however, because her knowledge of films was very thorough!
I began working on the piece from September to November, then programming it on and off through January and February ’89, when I met Marie. I remember the cowbell pattern that I devised during that month as having a particularly visceral effect on me. It gave me a strange sense of confidence, really…
