1990_0701 : Public Access
I wrote most of Public Access improvisationally, meaning I just let the first chord dictate what the next one would be. I didn’t have a specific idea in mind, I merely wanted to see if this was a more direct route to the heart of songwriting. The title is still somewhat enigmatic to me; neither do I know exactly what this song means; perhaps it supports the claim that I have no idea what I’m really doing. The line which says it for me, however, is:
I think you planned this, too
I think you know, just like I planned my part around
The things I hoped you’d do
because it came out exactly right the first time and perfectly describes this little game people play early in relationships.
