Day 060 “I Am Never Bored” – An Artistic Monograph • Portfolio by Eric Scott / Day For Night… A presentation of strategic design, art direction and multimedia.

Sitework: “The Re:Fresh Gallery”

Day 060, the Re:Fresh Gallery, is a three-part virtual structure proposed for the viewing of graphic artworks by Day For Night, and set to the downtempo/trip-hop beats spun by DJ Salvador Dalek. Re:Fresh is a home to works and installations in the areas of fiction and non-fiction, audio, motion and interface design, and is accompanied by a catalogue documenting the graphic work of Eric Scott.

The current exhibition, “Fans Should Not Be Moved Or Turned Off” collects visual work from the graphic archives of Eric Scott, to be viewed in the upper design gallery. Other site spaces include the Listen Soundspace, workshops for audio design, poetry and intermedia, and a lending library for customized industrial samples and loops.

Artist Andrew Lakey‘s following in Japan has been nothing short of fanatical since the early 1990s – and this miniature exhibition catalogue was produced before his Tokyo exhibition in December 2007, in association with JMA / Lightworks (Japan) and Crave Media Publishing (Japan).

“Angel Magic 108” is an oracle pairing original Lakey paintings with thematic virtues (Patience, Beauty, Tolerance…) and extends well beyond the angel artwork Lakey is best known for, spanning works from the last decade of Unencountered, Silhouettes and Shadows, Hearts and early abstract works.

Manifesto, the Day For Night book released in first edition in 2001, now enhanced with brand new interviews and texts at 148 pp. (hardcover)

For “Manifesto” (Day 017) Day For Night rethink sub-urban planning, in a typographic journal and overview of Day For Night. Post-Situationist propaganda films covers the walls of NIGHTlinkRail, hammering on about the overthrow of cultural leadership and the entertainment channels that fuel “big news.”

Post-revolution theories abound; albeit tongue-in-cheek, while “Big ideas” cross pollinate with more Situationism to create a collection that is naturally an ongoing work-in-progress.

Toto “XX” 1977-1997 – Design & Art Direction by Eric Scott with Brian Peterson, Logo Design by Magdy Rizk

In 1997, the successful “Tambu” campaign and tour were followed in 1997 by a collection of the Toto’s archival “XX”. This collection of unreleased, rare and live tracks from the band’s career necessitated the journey through a vault of photographs, recordings and collectibles, in search of the perfect career snapshot to satisfy both fans and collectors alike.

To create the dream-collage shown in the album art, many “new” historical artifacts were devised, as micro-cassettes, 8-tracks and tchotchkeys appeared for the first time ever, by use of Photoshop, and by the good graces and creative license this project had to offer.

So don’t go looking on eBay for a Kingdom Of Desire London Tour Bus anywhere… you probably won’t find it.

This work was produced in collaboration with Doug Brown of WorldWest Communications, with Brian Peterson (Roam Creative) and logo illustrator Magdy Rizk.

Steve Lukather “LUKE” – Design & Art Direction by Eric Scott (Day For Night)

1997 proved to be a strong year for Toto‘s Steve Lukather, when Sony Music International, in association with representation Fitzgerald-Hartley, devised a solo identity for the singer-guitarist, in the form of “Luke.”
Luke – the album – is a youthful-sounding album, full of energy and raw power. To hone the album concept, creative director Doug Brown (WorldWest) commissioned over 100 cover treatments and designs from Eric Scott, in an effort to bombard the decision-makers with choices of all varieties.

Steve Lukather_Luke Rennes_poster“…We completely plastered the conference room wall in designs, right before Steve (Lukather) and (manager) Mark (Hartley) arrived for the presentation. A 20-foot wall with hundreds of great album designs, all representing Luke with a different photographic and type treatments. There were over a hundred, and I was exhausted, since I’d been generating these for just about two weeks solid, doing about 7-10 new ones each day. And each time I showed a round to Doug, he’d smile and nod, and tell me to go and give him another ten.

What was really odd though, was how I snuck in at the last minute,  stuck one last design up there in the middle of the hundred, something I had just done upstairs in the studio, quite literally minutes before they arrived, and this happened to be the one with the word “LUKE” embedded very small, inside of Steve’s iris… And somehow, everyone, ironically, went straight to that one. Go figure, except that it was my favorite too.”

“Rob Mullins’ liner notes inform us that this disc is his attempt to reflect the craziness of the modern world, and he musically captures that vibe without getting self indulgent or inaccessible […] on a disc that incorporates rhythms of the world (samba, Latin, African), Crusaders-influenced soul, and a frenzied hodgepodge sampling tune called “Mullins World” which tries to make sense of the frenzied age of the information superhighway…” [ excerpts from Jonathan Widran’s review on AllMusic.com ]
